Tap water often contains calcium and magnesium which make hard water which can make your skin hard and rough. These bath salts not only soften the water but also help remove body oils and perspiration. These bath salts are not only soothing and relaxing, but are very easy to make. The ingredients are very simple and easy-to-find. You will add your favourite essential oils or herbs to make the perfect bath salts.

Recipe for Bath Salts:

2 cups of borax

½ cup of sea salt

½ cup of bicarbonate of soda

50 drops of  essential oil (about ½ teaspoon)

In a bowl mix the borax, sea salt and baking soda and then pound to smaller crystals with a pestle or the end of your wooden spoon. Then add the essential oil. Also add a few dried sprigs of your favourite herb (such as lavender, rosemary or marjoram)  or put them in a little muslin bag of you don’t want them to float in your bath.

Essential oils you may try:

Marjoram or lavender for relaxing, rosemary or juniper for stimulation or geranium or orange for stress relief –but experiment yourself. Me- I’m a creature of habit and usually use only lavender.
