A good carrier oil for distributing the effect of special essential oils for its medicinal or other usage should ideally have a number of qualities. Firstly, it should have little odour of its own, it should be fairly light but of therapeutic value in its own right for nourishing the skin, and if it is reasonable in price it is a major bonus.
Apricot Kernel Oil
An odourless, almost Colourless Oil. Suitable for all skin types, especially elderly, dry or inflamed skin. Good for facial care as it is light and easily absorbed. The downside is that it is quite expensive.
Avocado Oil
Useful for dry and dehydrated Skin, but is fairly expensive
Grapeseed Oil
Has a slight smell,and is pale green/yellow in colour. A very versatile and easily absorbed oil, suitable for most skin types.
Avoid using on sensitive skin, eczema and psoriasis. Inexpensive to buy
Jojoba Oil
A waxy oil with a slight smell, yellow/orange in colour. Suitable for all skin types including eczema, psoriasis, acne, inflamed and older skins. Cost is expensive.
Almond Oil
Odourless and colourless/pale yellow. This is the best oil to use on babies and children, it is nourishing, softening and revitalizing for all skin types. Will help itching, soreness, dryness, inflammation and wrinkled dry hands and its affordable to buy.
Wheatgerm Oil
Strong odour which can adversely affect the aroma, yellow/orange in colour, should only be used with anther carrier oil never on it's own. Useful for prematurely aged skin, eczema and psoriasis. Not for use on babies or children. reasonably priced.
