This pot pourri needs to start with a lot of dried lavender from last year – this is good because I have a bag of dried lavender I keep to make lavender bags for presents. However , the idea I heard today is that you start with a big bowl of lavender and add a few fragrant flowers and herbs each week over the summer. As the fragrant roses come out petals should be added a few at a time and stirred round – the idea is that the lavender dries the new flowers and herbs you add quickly and adds to the perfume to remind you of your garden. I shall plan to put my English rose petals into the mix, rosemary, thyme (but not too much) some marjoram and mint, and also pinches of wormwood and, my favourite, southernwood, later. It will be interesting to see how well the new additions are preserved without drying them separately (as I do usually).
