Exfoliating is a process of gently (or in some salon treatments none to gently) removing the top part of the epidermis (outer layer of skin). Exfoliation boost the circulation of blood to the face and removes dead skin cells that make your complexion dull looking. There are a number of herbal exfoliating treatments for all types of skin.

Removing the top epidermal surface of skin speeds cell renewal and gives clearer, younger skin, and removes fine lines and wrinkles. Regular exfoliation (abt twice a week) will improve dry skin and skin tone overall. Its equally good for late teenage skin as well as older skin.

Exfoliant for dry and sensitive skin

Take 1oz of ground almonds, 1 tsp of runny honey and an egg white. Grind the alonds finely in a grinder and then mix with the honey to give a sticky paste. Lightly beat the egg white until it has doubled in volume but still runny, and stir into the honey paste. Put it onto clean skin and leave for 15  minutes: then massage thoroughly using circular movements. Then rinse.

Exfoliant for ALL skin types

Take a ripe papaya, slice it in half and peel away the skin in large pieces. Rub the inside of the papaya skin over your face and neck, massing thoroughly for on to two minutes. Rinse with cool water and pat dry. Papaya contains an enzyme, papain, which acts like and AHA to dissolve the dead keratin (the protein in the skin surface) from the dead skin cells.

For oily or spotty skin

Mix 1 tablesp of granulated white sugar with a few drops of hot water and massage over your face and neck using circular movements. Rinse with cool water and pat dry. The sugar acts as an anti-bacterial agent on the skin.
