People (women in particular and that includes me in weak moments) are willing to pay huge amounts for skin treatments when there are amazing herbal remedies for all kinds of skin conditions. Here are a number of recipes for deep cleansing skin by using steaming.

Steaming, as well as deep cleansing the skin, also helps to plump up the skin in the short term, reducing fine lines. Take care with steaming if you have sensitive skin or have broken veins – only use occasionally, but with oily and combination skins steaming is brilliant for unclogging pores.

How to steam clean your skin

Fill a large bowl with boiling water and allow to cool slightly.

Add:        1 teaspoon of dried lavender and 1 of dried sage for normal skin

1 teaspoon of dried chamomile and 1 of basil for dry skin

1 teaspoon of mint and ½ tsp of lemon peel for combination & oily skin.

Stir and allow to infuse. Then place a towel over your head and lean over the bowl to form a tent. Close your eyes and let the steam bathe your face for 2-3 minutes. Afterwards blot skin dry and spritz with water.

As an alternative to dried herbs you can use a few drops of essential oils added to hot water instead:

Normal skin: 3 drps lavender, 3 drps mandarin

Dry Skin: 3 drps rose and 3 drps chamomile

Combination: 3 drps lavender 3 drops cypress

Oily skin: 3 drps lemon and 3 drps eucalyptus
