Preparing Herbs for Herbal Baths

You can use fresh or dried herbs and can put a decoction of herbs into the water or tie the herbs to the spout of the tap so that water washes over them when you are filling the bath. Of you can put herbs in a little bag or cut the feet of clean tights and use them. You could also make a number of small muslin bags to hold the herbs. Or you can put the herbs in a large muslin bag and just hang it over the bath into the water and leave to steep until you are ready.

There are a number of recipes and combinations of herbs for therapy or to make your bath water sweet smelling – where the fragrance is a powerful influence to relax you.

Lavender is often the favourite.

There are a number of recipes that are suggested as tonics for the skin – with prolonged usage comfrey is said to rejuvenate skin – mix equal parts of comfrey and orange peel – or combine equal parts of rose petals and lavender.

For a bath to relax stiff muscles and joints use equal parts sage leaves and strawberry leaves.

You can experiment yourself with various combinations of two or more of the following aromatic herbs to invent your own herbal bath:
