This time (August) is just about the right time to start preparation to make the herbal remedies and household goods made from herbs that I may either use myself or give as gifts at Christmas. This year I am making more Marigold ointment, some Rose petal lip balm and some Gardeners’ soap. I will also be making some tincture of lavender and some kitchen items (herbal vinegars and oils), but will decide later about these. Here is where I’ve got to in initial preparation. Marigold Ointment I’ve picked the petals and they are in a jar with a closed top filled with almond oil sitting in the sun in my porch. Rose Petal Lip Balm I’ve picked the sweetly smelling pink and red petals from my old English roses and they have sat in the almond oil jar for about a month. I decanted the pinkish oil yesterday and it will be there when I assemble the other ingredients. I have bought the jars for both these on the internet. Gardeners’ Soap I have bought the soap base (colourless) from the internet and the plastic moulds to put it in. I have yet to get the vitamin E capsules and other stuff but should be ready this time next week.
